Norman resident Wendell "Pinekinaskika" Roger Sloan, 64, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, in Shawnee.
He was born Feb. 24, 1945, in Cleveland County to Frank and Agnes (Sloat) Sloan. He was raised in the Little Axe area, and attended school at Haskell in Lawrence, Kan.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era, was a member of the Absentee Shawnee, a member of Post 88 American Legion, and worked as an electrician. He enjoyed gardening, art, wood crafting, reading and classical music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; two brothers, and four sisters.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, James B. and Rosetta Sloan of Norman; sisters and brother-in-law, Marjorie Kaniatobe of Newalla, Esteline and Don Schulenberg of Norman, and Jenifer Sloan of Tecumseh; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
Service will be held on 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Brendle Corner with Don Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at the Absentee Shawnee Burial Grounds in Little Axe.
