Darren was a dedicated Officer with the Davie County Sheriffs Office for many years. He had a long struggle with sickness but faced it with great courage and character. He was a good friend and a very professional Law Officer.
Darren was also a talented Guitarist, songwriter and singer.

Mr. Darren Ray Ireland, 38, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born Sept. 1, 1969, in Davie County. Mr. Ireland graduated from Davie High in 1987 and from DCCC Basic Law Enforcement Training in 1996. He was a Lieutenant with the Davie County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Ireland was hired part-time December 6, 1996, and went full-time August 5. 1998; was active in Domestic Violence program since 1998; certified in Crime Scene Investigations; certified in Intoxilyzer Operator; member of the sheriff's multi-agency Interdiction team; received his Radar Operator certification in July of this year and was promoted to Sgt. in January and to Lt. in July. He was a blessing in many people's lives, whether in uniform or not. Darren was a beloved member of Calvary Baptist Church of Mocksville. His love for playing his guitar and writing songs was one of his greatest joys along with being with his family and friends, but his two greatest loves were his wife, Kristy and his daughter, Eden. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Lester and Catherine Frye; paternal grandmother, Mary Ireland; uncle, Kenneth Ireland; and two cousins, Jonathan "Jon Jon" Frye and Norma Jean Fowler. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Kristy McLeod Ireland of the home; a daughter, Eden Hellard of Walnut Cove; mother, Bonnie and Sam Lambert of Mocksville; father, Bobby and Jean Ireland of Hamptonville; a brother, Scott and Angel Ireland of Virginia Beach, Va.; paternal grandfather, Clyde Ireland of Mocksville; and many other loving family members. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Gryder and the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, at Eaton Funeral Home. They request that memorials be considered for Davie County Law Enforcement Association
