MOCKSVILLE - The funeral will be Saturday for S. Ellsworth Nothstine, 92, Mocksville, who died Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at Brian Center Nursing and Rehabilitation, Statesville.
Born Aug. 2, 1907, in Columbus, Ohio, Nothstine was a son of the late Rev. Henry and Hattie Nothstine. Educated in the Lynchburg, Ohio, schools, he received a doctorate of theology from the American College and Seminary in Chicago, a doctorate of sacred theology from the International Free Protestant University in London and a doctorate of philosophy from Roosevelt University. He also received honorary degrees from six different institutions.
He had served as pastor in Ohio, Indiana, California and South Carolina. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the Military Police. He was stationed at the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant in Indiana.
Author of a dozen books, he contributed to many religious magazines and was editor of The Pulpit Workshop for 20 years. He is listed in the "International Directory of Biography" in London, "Men of Achievement" inCambridge, England, and "Who's Who in Ohio." He was a radio preacher for the Youth for Christ Organization for many years.
He is survived by several nephews.
Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Saturday, Calvary Baptist Church cemetery, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Jim Gryder, pastor, and the Rev. Doug Smith, minister of Lexington First Wesleyan Church.
Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, in charge.
