Funeral services for Summit Ridge resident, Hurschel Lee Dooley will be held at Summit Lake Community Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. Interment will follow at the Summit Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Janice Cook will be officiating. The Dolores VFW McPhee Post #6088 and the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75 Rifle Team will be conducting military graveside services.
Mr. Dooley was born on July 11, 1931 in Calvin, Okla. to Arthur Lee and Dona Kathleen (Blaylock) Dooley. He passed away on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 71.
Serving his country in the Army, Mr. Dooley defended the United States during the Korean War. He later became a 30-year member of the American Legion Post #60 in Brawley, Calif., and a lifetime member of the Dolores VFW. The Elks Lodge Post #1420 in Brawley had Mr. Dooley as a member for 15 years. He was also a proud member of the Lions Club. While living in California, he belonged to various city organizations as well. On March 4, 1951 in Holdenville, Okla., Hurschel married Bessie Bonita Start. Playing cards with his friends and neighbors, and spending time with his family was a dear love of his. His grandchildren, and great-grandchildren held very special places in his heart. Being outdoors, hunting, fishing and boating were also times Hurschel enjoyed greatly.
Mr. Dooley is survived by his wife, Bessie Dooley of Summit Ridge; his daughters: Deborah Blevins and husband Gary of Chandler, Ariz.; Rhonda Fargo and husband John of Brawley, Calif.; Wanda Carter and husband Joel of San Diego, Calif.; Karen Cherland and husband Bud of Yuma, Ariz.; and Andrea Martin and husband Bruce of Escondido, Calif.; and his foster daughter, Shirley Miller and husband Mike of San Diego, Calif. He leaves 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and his three sisters: Reva Brewer and husband Recil; Alma McGage and husband Buck all of Holdenville, Okla.; and Sally Ann Hall of Oklahoma City, Okla. Numerous nieces and nephews survive him as well. Preceding him in death are his parents.
Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Dooley's memory to the Dolores Fire Department. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
