Pearl Alvey, 64, of Leitchfield, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Caritas in Louisville. She retired from Mother's Cookies. She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Newton. Survivors include her mother, Velma Decker Pleasant; two daughters, Jan Sweazy of Louisville and Patricia Pierce of Georgetown; a son, Cody F. Alvey Jr. of Louisville; two brothers, Charles Newton and James Newton, both of Leitchfield; two sisters, Rita Brant of Leitchfield and Hazel Redman of Mount Washington; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a special friend, Kenny Newton of Mount Washington. The funeral is 11 a.m. Central time Saturday at Watkins Ellis-Mayes Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Brother Cecil Williams officiating. Burial will be in Eveleigh Cemetery. Visitation begins 11 a.m. Central time today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
