Elmer James Shoults, 83, was born July 20, 1905, the son of Andrew and Daisy Shoults. He died Dec. 29, 1988, at West Plains Health Care Center in West Plains.

He married Audrey Briggs on Oct. 17, 1934. They had 10 children.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Bill. and Everett; and one sister, Alma Brim.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey, of the home, seven sons, Denver Shoults of Creve Coeur, Van, James, David and Frankie Shoults of Hartshorn, Donald and Charley Shoults of Summersville; three daughters, Acleda Young of Summersville, Marcella Wilcox of Hartshorn and Darlene Meixner of the state of California; three son-in-laws; six daughter-in-laws; 19 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillie Karr of Summersville and Isabelle Riley of Hartshorn; one brother, Omer Shoults of Hartshorn.

Elmer was saved and baptized at the Valley Center Baptist Church in 1957 and attended church regularly until his health prevented it. He had been in ill health for about seven years and lived the last six years at the West Plains Health Center.

Services were Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Valley Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Steelman officiating. Burial was in Valley Center Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Summersville.
