Mack Kent Allen, 85, of Tulsa, Okla., passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.
Mack was born on Sept. 9, 1924 in Columbus, Texas to Dee H. and Anna (Uzzell) Allen. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1942, served in the U.S. Navy from June 1943 to May 1946, and married Lillian Rodgers on Aug. 18, 1946.
Mack graduated from Texas A&M University in May 1950. After graduation, he began farming and ranching in Colorado and Fayette counties while also teaching agriculture to World War II veterans in Fayette County. He went on to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for several years before joining the Colorado County Federal Savings and Loan as a loan officer. He was later employed at the Katy National Bank as executive vice president.
Mack believed in the importance of community service and was active in the Caledonia Masonic Lodge No. 68, Columbus Lions Club, the Katy Rotary Club, the Red Cross and the United Way. Mack and Lillian moved to Tulsa in 1989, where he enjoyed his retirement years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas O. Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Rodgers) Allen; his son, David Allen of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter Tricia and son-in-law Duffy Duyfhuizen of Eau Claire, Wis.; daughter Nancy and son-in-law Stuart Taylor of Columbus; his twin brother, Jack Allen of League City; grandchildren, Matthew Taylor, Laurie Taylor Hooper, Caleb Allen, Taylor Allen and Katie Duyfhuizen; and great-grandchildren Crit and Kinley Hooper.
Funeral services took place Friday, Feb. 12 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. Internment followed at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. Memorials may be given to the charity of choice.
