MANITO, IL - Richard W. Baker, 64, of 58 Marilyn Monroe Drive, Cecilia, Ky., and formerly of Manito, passed away at 12:18 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky.

He was born June 18, 1945, the son of William R. and Lorraine Allen Baker. He married Janet L. Mirick on June 8, 1985, in El Paso, Texas, and she survives.

He is survived by two daughters, Jina (Andy) Scott of Louisville, Ky., and Lisa A. Pennington of Plano, Texas; and one stepdaughter, Kristen L. Huntoon of Worcester, Ma. Richard is survived by one son, Richard (Mary Francis) Baker Jr. of Dallas, Texas; and one stepson, Eric W. (Kara) Huntoon of Gardiner, Mass. He also is survived by his mother, Lorraine Baker of Forest City; and nine grandchildren. Two sisters also survive, Janice (Terry) Flairty of Forest City and Lorrie (Bill) Jones of Manito; and two brothers, Jerry (Susan) Baker of Manito and Robert Westrope of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Douglas Baker (1986) and Kevin (2008).

Richard served in the U.S. Army for 24 years, retiring March 31, 1992, and served in Korea and Vietnam and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He was a member of the American Legion Post, VFW Post, and the Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Community United Methodist Church in Manito with the Rev. Shane Smith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Community United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Forest City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Hill-Palmer American Legion Post 569 and the Tazewell Co. Ceremonial team at the graveside following the internment.
