Birth: Nov. 26, 1852
Snow Hill
Wilcox County
Alabama, USA
Death: Nov. 29, 1939
Hill County
Texas, USA

J.W. (John Wilson) Albritton was the eldest son of James Roundtree Albritton [1826-1911] and Susan Skinner Albritton [1827-1909].

According to the grave marker, J.W. was born in Snow Hill, Wilcox County, Alabama. According to the death certificate, his place of birth was in Thelma, Alabama. (The town of Thelma, Alabama no longer exists. There was a Thelma Post Office, in operation for a time, north of Rockford in what is known today as Coosa County, Alabama.) The informant on the death certificate is not entirely legible, but is possibly the younger sister to J.W.

His father (James Roundtree Albritton) appears on an 1850 Census Record in Wilcox County, Alabama prior to the marriage with his mother (Susan Skinner), and prior to J.W. Albritton's birth.

The family appears on an 1860 Census Record in Union County, Louisiana, when J.W. was 6 years old. (Of note: the later 1910 Census Record for J.W. states his birth location was in Lousiana.)

The parents and some siblings appear on an 1880 Census Record in Freestone County, Texas, but by this time, J.W. was married and not living with his parents.

J.W. Albritton married Emma Emaline Warr [1852-1937] about 1870 or 1871, according to a later census record (in 1910) which shows the couple had been married for 38 years.

J.W. and his wife Emma appear on Census Records in 1910 Navarro County; in 1920 Harris County, Texas; and in 1930 Hill County, Texas. The couple had no known children.

J.W. died 3 days after his 87th birthday, almost a year and a half after the death of his wife. At the time of his death, he resided at the couple's home located in Hillsboro, Hill County, Texas.

My gratitude to Mary Foster Nichols (member #47212678) for the work she has done on the WARR family, which lead to these discoveries about the husband to Emma Emeline Warr Albritton; to Ann (the creator of this memorial) for her contributions to the Warr, Albritton, and Skinner family memorials; and to Michael (#47513207) for his photo contributions. Please credit Michael for his photographs, and Ann for the creation of this Memorial, if you use the details in your Family Tree.
