"And God shall wipe away all tears from
their eyes; and there shall be no more
death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither
shall there be anymore pain" (Revelation 21:4)

Fannie Alice Merriweather Griffin was born
from the union of Mr. & Mrs. D. W.
Merriweather, in Leflore County, MS on
May 25, 1902. She was the third of
nine children. Fannie became a Christian
at an early age and joined the Mt. Carmel
M. B. Church in Itta Bena, MS. In 1919,
her family moved to Belzoni, in the
Deovolente community, where she joined
the Shiloh M. B. Church. Fannie enjoyed
many years of dedicated service as a
Sunday School teacher, Choir member,
Missionary Society and BTU member. She
was the founder of the Thanksgiving
Program that is celebrated yearly at
Shiloh M.B. Church. She was also the
oldest Mother member with 81 years
of service.

Her early education was in the Palo Alto
Schools in Itta Bena, MS. She attended
Natchez College and obtained a Bachelor
of Science degree in Education from
Mississippi Valley State University in
1955. She was a teacher in the Humphreys
County School District for 43 years.
Fannie took great pride in opening her
home to other teachers. Many teachers
considered her house as the "Home for
Teachers". Recently, Fannie had been
active at the Galloway Adult Day Care
where she taught the teachers how to teach.

Fannie was united in holy matrimony to
the late Mr. Henry Griffin in May of
1938. To this union one daughter
was born.

Fannie leaves to cherish her loving
memories, two daughters Alyce Griffin-Clarke
and Eva Wells, two sisters, Cora G. Woods
and Ida Bell Griffin, numerous nieces and
nephews, fourteen grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren and many dear friends.
