Thomas Vernon Grimmig, 65, of Raton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, in Raton. He was born Aug. 9, 1941, in Atchison, Kan., the son of Robert and Lula Byers Grimmig.
From a very young age, he was a carpet and floor installer. His greatest passion was to lay carpet and was well known in Colorado to do wall and floor murals with carpets, such as the Elks Lodge emblem, Aspen ski lodge scenes, nature wildlife scenes, and other murals as such.
He also had a great talent working with wood and was a very creative person. Even though his majority lifetime was being a carpet and floor installer, he was also Raton's housing director two or three years. He was a very determined and inspiring man. He was a member of St. Patrick's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Raton.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth J. Trujillo/Grimmig of the home; one daughter, Vicki Grimmig of Broomfield, Colo.; two sons, Nick Grimmig of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Matthew Grimmig of Nile, Mich.; one sister, Bobbie Patton and husband Larry of Northglenn, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, best friend Ed and wife Pat Warman of Westminister, Colo.; and his favorite in-laws: Florine, Ginger, Lee and Joe, all of Raton.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Saturday, Feb. 17, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Raton. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10 a.m. with Father Daniel Balizan as celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Tinaja Cemetery at 2 p.m.
