Funeral services for Shawnee resident, James Dewitt Berryman, were held at 2 p.m. today at North Rock Creek Assembly of God Church, Garrett Lake Road, Shawnee. Brother Thomas Morris officiated.

Interment followed at the Harjo Family Cemetery, east of Little, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Mr. Berryman passed away Oct. 19, 2002 at his home in Shawnee, following a brief illness at the age of 59 years, surrounded by his family and close friends.

He was born Aug. 7, 1943 in Pontiac, Mich. to Glenn I. Berryman and Veda Ellis Clayton.

He grew up in the Lindsay area, graduating from Lindsay High School in 1961.

Mr. Berryman enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 7, 1963 and served in the Vietnam War from April 16, 1966 to December 15, 1966, and was honorable discharged on Jan. 18, 1967.

He graduated from Seminole Junior College and was employed as a restaurant manager and cook until his retirement due to health.

J.D. and Jo Kay Underwood were married on Nov. 19, 1968 in Del City and lived in the Seminole and Shawnee area.

He is survived by his wife of the home; seven children, Shelly and husband Tim Hall of Oklahoma City, Roberta Haney of Okmulgee, Steve and wife Julie Haney of Shawnee, Andrea and husband T.J. Henderson, Cydney and husband Todd Wood of Edmond, Scotty Berryman and Timothy Berryman of the home, 19 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one step-son, Kelly Lee Haney.

Pallbearers will include the Seminole Chapter Honor Color Guard of the Vietnam EraVeteran's Intertribal Association.

Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Wood, T.J. Henderson, Scott Berryman, Steve Haney, Tim Hall, Keith Ruminer, Allen Ruminer, Kelly Bell, Russ Haskins, David Thompson, Bob Nauni, and Stanley Beasley.
