Joseph William'Joey' Gander, 94, of Luray died on Tuesday March 15, 2011.
He was born on Dec 14, 1916 in Luray and was a son of the Lester H. and Lelia B. Shaffer Gander.

Mr. Gander was an Army Veteran, having served during World War II. He spent 38 months of his four year service overseas. He served in Panama and the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Gander was a charter Member of the VFW Comer-Jones Post 621 in Luray.

He his survived by a brother, James E. Gander of Luray; a sister, Gena G. Stephens of Washington, D.C.; four nieces, Elizabeth G. Foltz of Luray, Elizabeth G. Michaels of Front Royal, Nancy G. Cotter of Luray and Bonnie B. Wilson of Arlington; a Nephew James E. Gander II of Luray, six great-nieces and five great-nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John M. Gander and two sisters, Marjorie C. Bedore and Lennis F. Gander.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, March 21, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Eddie Walker with military honors by the VFW Comer-Jones Post 621. Burial was in the Gander family cemetery in Luray.
