Elias Bender was married to Miss Eva Gull in Pennsylvania in 1847 and the to them 12 children were born, four of whom preceded him to the great beyond. His first wife died January 23, 1894. He married again in 1898 to Mrs. Susan Benn, who died in 1902. November 15, 1903 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Lucy Elliott of Bloom City who Survived him. After his marriage they embarked for what was then called the great west, settling in the town of Forest, Richland County in 1854, where he reared a large family and hewed a splendid farm from the virgin forests. Through industry, thrift, and economy he laid by a competence that provided for him in his declining years. He was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting with the 46th Wisconsin Co. C. in 1865. The deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis.
