Evelyn Houston Baker, 81, of Connelly Springs went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, March 24, 2012 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Baker was born March 27, 1930 in Burke County to the late June Alexander Houston and Laura Berry Houston.

She was a homemaker, and was a member of Heritage Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Buddy Houston; and one sister, Relma Bradshaw.

Survivors include one son, Carroll A. Carter of Connelly Springs; one daughter, Barbara Buchanan and her husband, the Rev. Dewayne Buchanan of Connelly Springs; one granddaughter, Renee Hurley and her husband, Lennie of Rutherford College; two grandsons, Mickey Buchanan and his wife, Candice of Rutherford College and Johnny Ray Carter of Morganton; five great-grandchildren, Mikayla Buchanan, Samara Hurley, Kori Buchanan, Gabriel Hurley and Carter Buchanan; also surviving is a special friend, Tommy Millsaps and her favorite pet cockatoo, Casper.

Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday March 26, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. Officiating will be the Rev. Dewayne Buchanan.

Interment will follow at Abee's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. At other times the family will be at the home of Renee Hurley, 1411 Malcolm Blvd., Rutherford College, NC.

Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory of Valdese is serving the family.
