Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock for Mrs. Dora Adkins at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Whitt, with the Rev. B. T. Waites and Rev. Frank Hoffman officiating. Burial was made in the City Cemetery, McConnell directing.
Mrs. Adkins died early Wednesday morning, March 14, at Mrs. Whitt's home, where she had been living. She had been ill for about five years.
She was born in 1866 in Giles County, Tennessee, near Pulaski, the daughter of Rev. Harbard Harwell and Letitia Young Harwell.
In 1886, she married Wash Adkins and moved to Leggtown where she lived until moving to Athens in 1909.
A devout Christian, she had been a member of the Methodist Church since childhood and gave much of her time and energy in helping others.
She is survived by Mrs. Whitt, one other daughter, Mrs. Theo Calvin, and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Sam Coggins, Hughey Adkins, Eugene Adkins, Thurman Siniard, Fulton Sims and Knox Biles.
Honorary pallbearers were W. R. Hightower, Walter Beasley, Sanford McElroy, Roy Whitt, John Sandlin, Jess Hargrove, T. H. Christensen and William Christensen.
