Charles F. Aikins
Charles F. Aikins, 82, died Saturday, June 7, 2008, in Scenery Hill Manor Nursing Home, Indiana, Pa. He was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Plumcreek Township, Armstrong County, to Jesse and Anne (Harmon) Aikins.
Mr. Aikins was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He was a resident of the Elderton/Shelocta area all his life.
Chuck served in the Army during World War II. He retired in 1988 from a career in sales and retail. His love for cars and the gift of conversation made him an exceptional salesman. He enjoyed walking, playing cards at the Senior Center, bowling, listening to his son's band, and spending time with his family and grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae Aikins, whom he married June 28, 1947; a son, Jim Aikins and his wife, Lynne, of West Leechburg; a grandson, Michael Aikins, of West Leechburg; a sister, Cleo Cunningham and husband, Dan, of Saltsburg; and a brother, Leland Aikins and his wife, MaryLou, of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Hall; and three brothers, Kenneth, Laird and Dean Aikins. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the CLARK CHAPEL OF THE BAUER FUNERAL HOME, Elderton, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Joyce Dix-Weiers and the Rev. Vaughn Taylor co-officiating.
The Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors immediately following the service.
Interment will be in Elderton Cemetery, Armstrong County.
