Gary Thomas Beavers
Mr. Gary Thomas Beavers, age 55 of Bandy, Virginia, passed away Monday, January 03, 2005 following a lengthy illness. Born May 26, 1949 in Richlands, Virginia he was the son of Claude & Edith Bandy Beavers of Bandy and the grandson of the late Will & Pearl Beavers and John & Maggie Bandy.

He was a Vietnam Veteran having been wounded in action and received the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device and the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2166 and the Loyal Order of the Moose.


In addition to his grandparents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, April Dawn Beavers.


He is survived by his former wife and special caregiver, Barbara Altizer Beavers; two daughters, Heather Michelle Beavers of Damascus & Crystal Rae Farley & husband Kevin of Knoxville, TN; one son, Garett Roland Beavers of the home; two sisters, Sandra Payne of Cedar Bluff & Tammie Scott & husband Rev. Brad of Jonesborough, TN; one very special grandson who he was very proud of, Jace Jennings Farley of Knoxville, TN; one special brother-in-law, Jimmy Altizer of Cedar Bluff; several nieces & nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Bandy Community Freewill Baptist Church in Bandy, Virginia with Rev. Sam Altizer & Mr. Marvin Nipper officiating. Burial will follow in the Altizer Cemetery at Whittaker Ridge, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Altizer, Rick Keen, Charles Sparks, Chris Edwards, Cody Keen, Barry Muzzleman & Leonard Beavers, Mack Payne & Sean Payne. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Brewster, Johnny Sparks & Lowell Brewster. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt V.F.W. Post 9640 & Tazewell County Chapter 31 D.A.V.
