HEATH SPRINGS –
William Wallace "Bill" Baker Sr., 83, died Friday, March 25,
2011, at Agape Nursing Home in Rock Hill.

Born Sept. 4, 1927, in Lancaster, he was a son of the late George W. Baker and Lucy Morris Baker. He was married to Alice Starr Potts Baker. He was a World War II U.S.. Navy veteran. He retired from Bowater after 35 years of service. He was a member and former elder of Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church. He was a Mason and Shriner.

A funeral service was held Monday, March 28, at Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. William B. Sumner, with burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William W. Baker Jr. and his wife, Fei-Chun (Laura) Hsiao of Heath Springs and John P. Baker of Livingston, N.J.; a daughter, Suzanne McGuirt and her husband, J. Donald McGuirt, of Myrtle Beach; a brother, James Baker of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Esther Kay of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, John R. Baker, George A. Baker, Harry B. Baker, Woodrow S. Baker, Wade H. Baker and Jay Morris Baker; and a sister, Florence Brannen.
