The son of Christof Frederich Banzhof and Mary Crawford. On
April 18, 1818, John Benchoof purchased from George Coughran a tract of three hundred acres lying in Adams and Franklin counties in PA. On February 25, 1839, obtained a warrant for one hundred eighty-five acres on the county line, adjoining lands formerly belonging to David Bendhoff. The homestead is located along the Furnace Road, east of Blue Ridge Summit, Franklin County, PA.
