Browning Leader-Record newspaper Joseph born Apr 6, 1847 at Ravenswood, West Virginia, son of Thomas and Louise (Arnold) Mairs, died at his home eight miles NW of Browning MO. He enlisted in the Union Army and served three years. Then moved to Sullivan Co. MO. with his parents. Father bought land where the town of Milan, MO now stands. In 1866, moved to the vicinity of Browning. On June 1870, he married Mary E. Curtis.
Surviving are T(homas) I. Mairs, Alice Purdin, John Mairs, Dora Hayes, Ada Darr, Anna Morris, Lillian, and Van C. Mairs, his children,
his wife, brothers Dr J(ames) A(lonzo) Mairs, Benjamin Mairs, and John Mairs,
sister Mrs. Emma Curtis, all of Browning MO.
