His obituary
The community was shocked Wednesday morning to learn of the dath of H.J. Wagner, an old resident of this vicinity was was very highly esteemed. He lived here with his daughter, Louise, and usually was on hand promptly at the breakfast hour. When he failed to appear investigation revealed he had died in bed apparently without a struggle.
H.J. Wagner was born in 1852 at West Bend, WI. He was in the general merchandise business in his home town for 35 years. He married Marie Steer of Tiffin, Ohio, in 1876. Seven children survive him: Mrs. H Mooney, Miss Louise Wagner, Mrs. J.K. Murray; all of Mott; Mrs. J Fensted of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Mrs. G Honsey of Heda South Dakota; Otto Wagner of Stanford, Mont; and Frank Wagner. His wife died about 10 years ago. One brother and three sisters preceded him in death.
He came to Mott in 1907 and purchased a half section farm about 5 miles southeast of the city, now owned by Fred Zimmerle. He was industrious and frugal and built a fine farm home which he managed until his health compelled him to retire, since which time he has occupied his residence in the northwest part of the city. He has many old-time friends who will regret his passing. Services will be conducted from the Catholic church Saturday morning, Rev Chas. Schneider officiating and internment will be made in the local cemetery.
