Civil War: Company C, 4th California Infantry

Joseph Billiard was a 34-year-old butcher when he enlisted as a private at Shasta, California, September 19, 1861, and was mustered into Company C, 4th California Infantry, at Auburn, October 5. Private Billiard died of dropsy at Benicia Barracks October 2, 1862, and was buried in the post cemetery. (Orton, 619, 871; CMSR, NARA)
