He was born on Sept. 11, 1924, to Anton and Olga Absalonson in Bottineau, North Dakota, and had one sister and two brothers. When Orvall was 4, his mother passed away. He and his family moved to Whitefish and settled in a house on Dakota Avenue. Orvall lived there until moving into the Vets Home on Jan. 20, 2015.

Orvall graduated from Whitefish High School in 1942 and went into the Army a year later. He served in World War II and earned the American Theater Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a military policeman. Orvall was honorably discharged on March 10, 1946.

After his military service, he worked at Stoltz Lumber and later for the Columbia Falls Aluminum Plant. He worked at CFAP for 26 years until his retirement.

Orvall never married and he loved the bachelor’s life. He spent many hours hunting, fishing and picking gallons of huckleberries.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ernest and Oliver.

He is survived by his sister, Alice Fulkerson; and his nieces and nephews, Marcia Carper, Jolene and Steve Raybourn, Mary Jo and Dennis Gabriel, Jim and Janet Fulkerson, Mike and Sandy Absalonson, and Steve Absalonson; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Home for their kindness and care of Orvall. They also would especially like to thank his good friend, Bud McDowell for always being there for him.
