"DEATH TAKES VICTOR DEBOT Victor Nicholas Debot died Saturday afternoon at his home here after a prolonged illness due to the infirmities attended upon advanced age. Mr. Debot was born June 3, 1848 in Loenhout, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium. He was married to Sophia Peeters April 13, 1871. Sixteen years later Mr. & Mrs. Debot, on the Red Line Steamer "Nederland", arrived at Philadelphia. From that place they went to Mastodon, Michigan and later to Iron Mountain, Michigan, remaining only but a short time in both places. The next move was made to Wausaukee in 1888, since which time they remained here. In Wausaukee Mr. Debot was first associated with the firm of Bird and McIntyre. Later he jobbed in the woods of the county. Mr. Debot served several years as town treasurer, making an enviable reputation in the service. He was a charter member of the Maccabees order. On April 13, 1921 Mr. and Mrs. Debot celebrated the golden anniversary of their wedding, a happy event that was shared in by nearly the entire town and many outside guests. Besides his wife, Mr. Debot leaves to mourn his loss, four daughters - Mrs. Emile Everix, Chilton; Mrs. John DeGroot, Wausaukee; Mrs. A.J. DeRoeck, Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. Clarence Lindstrom, Marinette and one son, Edward Debot, Wittenburg, Wisconsin; 25 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Four other sons have been dead many years. The funeral, in charge of undertaker A. P. Bunker, was held Tuesday morning from St. Augustines church, Rev. Louis M. Schorn officiating. Mr. Debot was a loving husband and father, a good citizen and earnest church worker. The Independent joins their many friends in extending sympathy to the bereft family."
