John "Jack" J. DeGroot, 83, former Wausaukee resident, died Monday, Sept. 15 at his daughter's residence in Indianapolis, Ind.
Born Nov. 12, 1919 in Wausaukee to Mr. and Mrs. John (Justine DeBot) DeGroot, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Aug. 2, 1947 he married the former Elaine Nanesta in Chicago. He was employed as a machinist.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lauren Calder (M. Douglas Callihan) and Linda Stanton of Indianapolis, In.; three granddaughters; three great-grandsons; one brother, Ren (Mabel) DeGroot of Green Bay; two sisters, Rita Bentley of Shawano, and Sister Mary DeGroot of Racine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John DeGroot; a sister, Eunice Champeau; and seven brothers, Ed, Ray, Cy, Bob, Richard, Gerald and Herald.
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Messar Funeral Home in Wausaukee, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Rev. Ken DeGroot and Rev. William Stengel will officiate with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Wausaukee.
