Robert Cumbie Abbott, 95, of Harrison Township, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at St. John Macomb Hospital, Warren. He was born Aug. 1, 1909, in Coffee Springs, Ala.Mr. Abbott married Amelia H. Sass. Later, he married Inez Walters on Feb. 14, 1974, in Ohio.
He retired in 1962 as a lieutenant in the Detroit Police Department Mounted Division and then retired after working for 25 years at Ray Electric Co. He was a member of the Mariner's Boat Club in Harrison Township.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Inez; sons, Douglas (Robin) Abbott of Harrison Township and Gary (Christine) Abbott of Grand Blanc; grandchildren, Timothy (Kristin) Abbott of Chesterfield Township, Katherine Abbott of Phoenix, Andrew (Kristin) Abbott of Northville and Robert Abbott of Ferndale; great-grandson, Tyler; sister, Eloise Terry of Pensacola, Fla.; and stepson, Richard Stafford of Long Beach, Calif. He was predeceased by his first wife, Amelia, on April 21, 1973; and sister, Beatrice Novak.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot Ave., Mount Clemens. Burial will take place in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township.
Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Sunday.
