Mabel Lucille Butts was born on November 23, 1906 in Blue Springs Indian Territory the daughter of Lester and Mamie (Mayes) Davis. She attended grade school at Lowery, OK. On November 23, 1926, she became the bride of Dessie William Butts in Lowery, OK. This union was blessed with four sons and one daughter. Mabel was a devoted farm wife and mother. She seemed to be constantly in motion doing chores, raising garden, chickens, cattle, canning and doing the neighbor ladies hair in her home. She enjoyed time spent at the Ladies Home Extension Meetings and making sure every single grandchild had one of her afghans, lovingly made by hand. When the chores were caught up, you could find Mabel quilting, crocheting, singing in a gospel quartet, or oil painting, a hobby she acquired after the death of her husband in 1961. After Dessie's passing, Mabel moved to Tulsa and began and graduated from cosmetology school. She found the time to travel extensively across the United States visiting her children and grandchildren. She loved her family dearly and welcomed any chance to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mabel remained active in life until a stroke forced her to slow down at the age of 100. She remained close to her family and enjoyed being in their company. She was a member of the South College Church of Christ family for thirty years. The Lord called Mabel home from her labors on Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Tahlequah, OK. Mabel was 104 years old. She will be greatly missed for her many talents and the love she showed her family and friends daily. Mabel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dessie, her son Lyle in 1996, two brothers, Virgil and Austin Davis and one granddaughter, Deborah Hutchinson. She leaves behind four children, Leon Butts and wife Josie of Lowery, OK, Don Butts of Broken Arrow, OK, Shirley Kay and husband Bill of Welling, OK, and Winford Butts and wife Norma of Tulsa, OK. Her legacy lives on in her thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, a loving sister, Lois Wheeler of Dallas, TX as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
