Gene Brooks Inghram Black, 84, of Prosperity, died at 10 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

She was born Friday, January 23, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of Miles Burton Brooks and Louie Inez Pettit Brooks. Her early life was in Washington, and she had been in Greene County since she was two years old.

Mrs. Black was a member of Swarts Methodist Church, where she was a member of Women's Society, Ulysses Grange, Women of the Moose 888 of Waynesburg and Waynesburg Senior Citizens Center.

She attended Boyd Elementary School and Morris Township High School.

Mrs. Black was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards.

From 1946 to 1948, she worked for Greenway Shirt Factory when it first was started above the Waynesburg bus station.

She later worked for Galton Sylvania Production Spot Welder from 1952 to 1954. She then went back to work for Greenway Shirt Factory from 1954 to 1956.

Her first husband, Issac Slater Inghram, died December 6, 1954. Her second husband, Alvie L. Black, whom she married August 4, 1955, died September 2, 1996.

Surviving are two daughters, Marion Caroyl Wilson of San Pedro, Calif., and Belle Charlene McMahan of Waynesburg; a son, Marshall Clark Inghram of Bedford Heights, Ohio; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Elizabeth Mitchell of Waynesburg; two brothers, William Burton Brooks of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Carl Wayne Brooks of Ravenna, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews

Deceased is a brother, Elmer Bradford Brooks.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L Throckmorton, owner/ director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, with Pastor Shirley Edgar, officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery, Ruff Creek.
