Brother Dimidrian Higgins (1836-1869) was one of the 4 founding brothers of the San Francisco district who left from Ireland, but never had the opportunity to teach out West after volunteering to make the journey; he became ill during the trip from New York and was an invalid on his arrival in San Francisco, dying the year after the founding of the new District.
