William Julius Brown, age 90, of Hayfork, California died on January 1, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center.
Bill was born in Forsythe Country, North Carolina on March 13, 1922. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1939. He joined the Navy in 1942. During World War II Bill served in the Atlantic "Torpedo Junction" in North Africa, France, Italy and the Philippines. After completing his military service, he joined the Merchant Marines. He settled in Hayfork, Trinity County in 1946. He worked predominantly in the lumber industry until his retirement in 1987.
Bill married Norma Jane Norgaar on November 11, 1949; they were married for 58 years. Bill was preceded in death by Norma in 2006. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Bill was an avid life long reader and was actively involved in historical research. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Bill is survived by four daughters: Courtney Johnson of Happy Valley, Janice Gunn of Palo Cedro, Denise Kinnier of Redding and Julia Rulofson of Fortuna; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Randy and his sister Ima Meisenheimer, both of Winston Salem, North Carolina.
