Crossville Chronicle April 14, 1932

Word reached Crossville Monday that George Patten, Jamestown city marshall, had that morning about 10 a.m. shot and killed Homer Perkins, 20. He was the son of the late Frank Perkins, a brother of Mrs S W Potter of Crossville.
The information is that Patten asked Perkins if he intended to kill him. Perkins is said to have replied "no, but if I ever get mad enough at you to kill you, I will not shoot you in the back as you did my father". Patten is said to have drawn his pistol and said "Damn you, I'll kill you now" and began firing. Patten is said to have fired 2 shots both hitting Perkins near the heart. As Perkins fell, Patten is said to have made a motion like he would shoot Perkins through the head as he lay on the ground, but he was prevented by some bystanders.
It is also reported that when Patten drew his pistol, Perkins put up both hands and said "don't shoot". The shooting occurred outside the courthouse at Jamestown. The dead man is survived by a wife and babe.
The preliminary hearing is set for this afternoon. Patten is held in jail without bail. Feeling is said to be running high at the manner of the killing.
June 1 of last year, Frank Perkins, father of the dead boy, was killed by a posse of officers at his home 12 miles from Jamestown. Patten is said to have been one of the officers that did the shooting. Perkins was shot 4 times.
