Perry M. Bryan was born May 14, 1907 at Webster Grove, Mo. the son of Linn Emsley and Amelia Rachel Grimm Bryan and departed this life on December 18, 1985 at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Mo. at the age of 78 years. He was married to Ruth Aldrich on April 9, 1930 in Missouri and to this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of the home; two sons, Joseph Bryan of Eminence, Mo. and Leslie Bryan of Salem, New Jersey; one daughter, Juanita Ranck of Riverton, Utah; one brother, Russell Bryan of Glendale, California; four grandchildren, Lisa, Pete, Matthew and Cheryl; and one great grandchild, Tiffany Ann. Perry was a man of many talents, God given talents. He worked with the World Series Rodeos, painting life size rodeo pictures on the plate glass windows advertising rodeo dates; then sketching the first thing he saw at the rodeo of the bull and bronc riders, giving the sketch to the riders. This is where Perry got the name of "Cowboy Artist". He ran ranches in the west before coming to Shannon County. Perry was a charter member of the arts and crafts shows, being the one to help get it started. He was a blacksmith and traveled many miles with his horseshoeing rig. He shod horses for many celebrations including President Ronald Reagan in Yearling Row at Calabasas, Calif. He came to Shannon County in 1957 and lived in Winona, then moved to Eminence where he and his wife, Ruth ran the Ozarks Country Store. Perry worked for the National Park Service for 12 years and enjoyed it very much. He loved Shannon County and its wilderness and the people were so friendly and helpful in time of need. He was a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Highway 19 Program, Senior Citizens, and took a very active part in government and community affairs. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. in the Duncan Funeral Chapel at Eminence with Rodney Brown and Herald DeWeese officiating. Burial was in Flatwoods Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence.
