Calvin Goodenough Gay was born in 1813 in Needham, Massachusetts, son of Calvin and Ruth Gay. He moved west to Illinois sometime before Sept 4, 1850 when he was found living with the Benjamin and Harriet Parker family in Groveland, Illinois. His occupation is listed as carpenter. Calvin is found still living with the Parker family in the 1860 and 1870 censuses, still in Groveland, Illinois. The year 1880 finds him still in Groveland, but he is listed as a boarder living with the John and Margaret Kutnewsky family. According to the Tazewell County death records collection held by the Tazewell County Historical and Genealogical Society, Calvin passed away March 26, 1890 in Groveland. (Not in 1886 which was previously reported). Calvin never married and left no direct descendants.
