Sarah was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Dempsey. She married Asbury Ash abt. 1879. Asbury was born in Orangeburg County, South Carolina about 1848. He died in Suwannee Shoals, Columbia, FL. on May 22, 1934. They had numerous children: Lewis Ash 1893-1983; Mary Addi Ash b. March 1880; Ida Ash b. May 1896; Sarah Lillian Ash b. June 1881; William Ash b. March 1883; and Alberta Ash b. Feb. 1888. She had a carcinoma on her right foot, which was caused by a tack/nail in her shoe which stuck into her foot. It caused a sore and when it became irritated she scratched it. It became infected and got worse when she tried to treat it with bleach. It should be noted that in the 1900 census in Hamilton County, Florida it is listed that she and Asberry Ash have been married 21 years and that she birthed 9 children with 8 still living in 1900.
