Mary Margaret (Lickliter) Back, 69, of 164 Whiskey Creek Road, Churchville, Virginia, died Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at her home, after four years of declining health.

Born July 6, 1937, in Churchville, she was a daughter of Fred Craig and Mary Lydia (Landis) Lickliter.

A registered nurse, she was a graduate of Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Virginia. She was employed by King's Daughters' Hospital, and then Augusta Medical Center, retiring after 45 years of service.

She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Galen B. Back; a brother-in -law, Dick Armstrong; and a nephew, John Davis Jr.

Surviving are a sister, Shelby Armstrong, of Churchville, Virginia; two brothers, Howard C. Lickliter and his wife, Linda, and F. Landis "Pete" Lickliter, and his wife, Brenda, all of Staunton; nieces and nephews, Ashley Lickliter, Michelle Clark and her husband, David, Sandy Davis and Jeff Armstrong and his wife, Susan; and great-nieces, Rachael Armstrong, Ashley Armstrong and Allyson Armstrong.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2006, at Union Church cemetery by the Reverend Mark Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006, at Bear Funeral Home.
