Shawn Darnell Austin HAMPTON
Shawn Darnell Austin departed this life Feb. 1, 2007, in a local hospital. Shawn, known to most as "Mic Lord," was a radio personality on 103 JAMZ. He joined the "Boodah Brothers" morning show in 2004. His listeners knew him for his "Top Ten" lists and Mad Sports. Mic Lord had recorded a host of songs, including "Home," also known as the "Seven Cities Anthem." Shawn was everybody's best friend. He loved people and touched the life of each person that he met. Shawn was born Sept. 6, 1969, in Neptune, N.J. In the 1980s, he moved to Suffolk, where he continued his education in the public school system. After graduating John Yeates High School in 1987 he attended Hampton University. He has also served in the Reserves of the United States Army. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Juanita Austin of Suffolk; a son, Joshua Hollis Austin of Atlanta, Ga.; an uncle, Lawrence Powell and wife Patricia Ann of Franklin; a foster son, Dontae Greene of Hampton; several cousins, Lester Powell, Leslie Powell, Michelle Powell, Lavina Hopkins, Tracie Smith, Lawrence Powell Jr. and Trina Powell; and two special friends, Shauna Hollis and Marquita Green. He will also be remembered by many "brothers," "sisters," his darling godchildren and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Viola Austin; grandfather, Roscoe Austin; and uncle, Lester Powell Sr. A funeral for Shawn Darnell "Mic Lord" Austin will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple, 3100 Butternut Drive, Hampton. Interment will follow in Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. A wake will be held Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Six House, 2003 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Ave., Newport News, and two hours prior to the service at the church Thursday. "If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again." Those who knew and loved Shawn will miss him dearly. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and support.
