Steven H. Parrish, the son of Ernest and Anna (Craiglund) Parrish, was born at Sandusky, Michigan, on October 30, 1909, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on May 30, 1987, at the age of 77 years and 7 months.

He grew up in Sandusky, Michigan, where he began sign painting at the age of nine. He went to Gold Leaf sings at the age of 13, a self-taught profession he continued until his death.

After graduating from Sandusky High School he moved to Detroit, where he worked in the design department of Chrysler Corporation. He later served as postmaster in Sandusky, and then started a sign shop of his own there.

On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marie Malak, at Port Huron, Michigan.

He moved to Texas in 1951, and had his own sign shop in San Angelo. They moved to Nebraska in 1952, and lived and had sign shops in Grand Island, Albion, Norfolk, Mead, Ogallala, Scottsbluff, Franklin, and Superior, before settling in Aurora in 1976. As a Goldleaf signman his work has taken him throughout Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, and Nebraska.

His work has been featured in several newspapers and trade magazines, and he was featured on the Charles Kuralt Television show.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve is survived by his wife Marie; one son Douglas of Howell, Michigan; 2 daughters, Kathleen Petersen of Spokane, Washington and Ellen Fox of Portage, Michigan; one sister, Hazel Kruger of Bad Axe, Michigan and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held 2:30 P.M., Tuesday, June 2, 1987 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.
