Smith Ballard, 64, of 439 Upland Drive, died early this morning at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born In Lexington, Ky., Sept 23, 1899, he was the son of the late James W. Ballard and Nancy Green Ballard and a retired lumber inspector.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Thelma Samson Ballard two sons, Carl S. Ballard, Norfolk and Fred S. Ballard, Johnston City, Term.; five daughters, Mrs. E. A. Hughett, Marlon Mrs. M. G. Dunford, Pearlsburg Mrs. H. C. McDanlel, Virginia Beach; Mrs. C. W. Overton, Pulaski and Mrs. T. H. Jones Jr. Hyattsville, Md.; two brothers Henry Ballard, Memphis, Tenn and John Ballard, Mounds, HI. three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Adams, Mrs. N. H. Brown and Mr. John Graham, all of Lexington, Ky. Also, 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild

The body will remain at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements
