Emeline Leinbach Armstrong
LEWISBURG -

Emeline Leinbach Armstrong, 93, of Lewisburg and formerly of Watsontown, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where she had been a longtime resident.

She was born March 9, 1916, in Watsontown, a daughter of the late Merle and Marie (Marsh) Yoder. In September, 1942, she married Dr. Hiram E. Armstrong and together they shared 27 years of marriage until his death on Dec. 13, 1969.

A 1937 graduate of Watsontown High School and a graduate of Duke University, she also attended Yale University where she received a master's degree in nursing.

During World War II, Emeline worked as a company nurse for the former Chef Boy-ar-dee in Milton.

In 1951, she moved to Harrisburg where she settled into the life of a homemaker while also actively volunteering in the PA Medical Society, the Dauphin County Medical Auxiliary, the Visiting Nurses Association and the Women's Auxiliary of the Harrisburg Hospital. In 1970, she moved to Hershey, where she resided until 1997 when she moved back to Watsontown.

Emeline was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Watsontown, and was a former member of Memorial Paxton Presbyterian Church, Paxtang.

Emeline traveled the world with a few special friends and lived a long, satisfying and well-traveled life.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Stephan and Sherry Armstrong of Watsontown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Duane Griffin, of Lewisburg and Sarah and Andrew Rotunno, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Kent Leinbach, and an infant sister.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, Watsontown.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 401 Main St., Watsontown, officiated by her pastor, the Rev. Paul A. Smith.

Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.
