Son of Jacob Boyer (1803-1876; b. in KY) and Jane Kelly (1811-1879); siblings: John Andrew (1834-1864; Co. F, 38TH IND INF), James Philip (b. @1841; Co. F, 38TH IND INF), Margaret Ann (1835-1904), Mary Elizabeth (1837-1902), William Henry (1839-1925), Barbara Ellen (1842-1928), Harriet Newell (1846-1912), Jacob Leiter (1846-1926), and Martha C. (b. @1853); lived in Bethlehem Twp., Clark Co., IN in 1860.
According to NARA's "Registers of Deaths of U.S. Volunteers, 1861-1865", Samuel died of erysipelas (a bacterial skin infection usually caused by the streptococcus virus; also known also as "St. Anthony's Fire") in City Gen'l. Hospital in Indianapolis, IN on April 14, 1863. He is buried in Ross Cemetery next to his brother James, who died in Louisville, KY on July 10, 1864.
