ST. REGIS – Albert Louis "Ace" Altman, 76, of St. Regis, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2003, of natural causes at Mineral Community Hospital in Superior.
He was born on November 1, 1926, in Minnesota. At an early age, he moved to Idaho with his parents.
He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Hollywood, Calif., where his duties as an M.P. included escorting Shirley Temple when she crossed the street. After his discharge from the Army he came to Montana and found his niche in St. Regis where he was known as a sawyer for 30 years, cutting right of way and opening up areas of forest that we all now enjoy.
If Ace wasn't offering to give you a "blue eye" he was shaking your hand.
He enjoyed the local creeks, rather fishing or just relaxing, six pack in creek.
He married Mary Ann Ford and they raised seven children, Ken Altman of St. Regis, Steve, Bruce and Alex Altman, all of Polson Becky Altman of Post Falls, Idaho, Janet Munn of Polson and Diane Mattingly of Fremont, Utah. He is also survived by three sisters, Helen McClain of Grangeville, Idaho and Sophie Wetmore and Norma Tackitt, both of Lewiston, Idaho, and twelve grandchildren.
So, with a hupty-do and a rowdy dow, so long to our father, brother, grandfather and friend.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon until service time at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in St. Regi. Military graveside rites will follow at St. Regis Cemetery provided by Ray Welch American Legion Post #13.
Coffelt-Brunch Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
