Lifetime Alaska resident Theodore Atwater, 60, died April 6 in Talkeetna. A visitation was held at the Talkeetna Christian Center. A funeral was held at the center with the Rev. Jim Hale officiating. Burial was in the Talkeetna Cemetery.
Mr. Atwater was born Nov. 6, 1931, in McGrath. He spent his boyhood days trapping on the Kuskokwim River. He was a fireman and worked on the last paddle wheeler on the Kuskokwim River. He worked as a mechanic for Northern Air in Fairbanks. Mr. Atwater was a section foreman for the Alaska Railroad from which he retired in 1987. He married his wife, Nellie, Nov. 10, 1953, in Fairbanks. He enjoyed woodworking, making dogsleds, hunting and fishing. His son, Matthew, died in 1984.
Mr. Atwater is survived by wife, Nellie of Willow; his daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Michael Davis of Talkeetna; his brother, Harding of Knik; his sisters, Rose Glacier of Northway and Ellen Pablo of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Heather Davis, Joseph Davis, Heidi Davis and Hanna Davis; and his close friend, Mark Staick; all of Talkeetna. Arrangements were by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
