Mary Louise Brown "Granny" Knighten, a retired West Baton Rouge Parish school system employee with 28 years of service, she died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor Hospice Center. She was 82 and a resident and native of Port Allen.
Visiting at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Port Allen, service, conducted by the Rev. Raymond E. Allen Sr. Interment in Old Folks Home Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Edward O. Knighten Sr., Port Allen; two sons, Grover C. Harrison Jr. and Darrow Wayne Harrison, both of Port Allen; sister, Evelyn Brown Miller, Port Allen; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Dixon, of Baton Rouge, and Mildred Brown, of Detroit; brother, Beauregard Brown Sr., Port Allen; former daughter-in-law, Lillie Harrison, Brusly;
three grandchildren, Grover C. Harrison III and wife Kelli, Darrion D. Harrison and Justin L. Montague; three great-grandchildren, Grover C. Harrison IV, Hayleigh Harrison and Sidney Landry; and a host of other relatives.
She received her bachelor's degree from Leland College in Baker, master of education degree from Texas Southern University in Houston and 30 credit hours from Southern University.
