HEPLER - Edna Ilene Ausemus, 80, of Hepler, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Heritage Nursing Home in Girard. She had been in failing health. She was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Chanute to George Chester and Edna Effie (Barton) Howell.
She was raised in Hiattville, where her family had moved when she was 4. She attended country schools near there. In the early 1940s she moved to Hepler.
She attended Hepler Christian Church. She was a member of Hepler Emera Chapter 427 of the Order of Eastern Star and transferred her membership to Hiattville Ideal Chapter 369 when the two chapters were united. She was a member of the OES for more than 50 years.
She married Chester Ausemus on Oct. 19, 1942, at Girard. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors include two sons, James Darrell Ausemus of Hepler and Fred Wayne Ausemus of Fort Scott; one daughter, Arlene Weber of Hepler; five granddaughters; one step-grandson; six step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Howell of Olathe; and one sister, Ida Mae Kroenke of Walnut.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, George Howell, Clyde Howell, Howard Howell and Donnie Howell.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hepler Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
