Eleuterio "Lou" Carrillo, 83, of Parsons, died at 5:07 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2009, at his home. He had been in failing health. His wish was to die at home and was receiving hospice services from Southern Care.
He was born February 20, 1926, in Fort Scott, Kansas, to Vincente and Refugio (Fuentez) Carrillo. At the age of 3, his family moved to Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico. He served in the Mexican Army and, at the age of 19, he returned to Parsons where he had lived since. He also served in the United States Army.

In 1950, he worked for two years at the Katy Railroad before working for 37 years at the State of Kansas Highway Department, retiring from there in 1989.

He was a member of the Ft. Scott Consistory, Parsons Masonic Lodge No. 117, A. F. & A.M., Elks BPOE Lodge No. 527, Brown-Bishop Post No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Past Master of Shriners International, Blue Lodge in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Grand Lodge of New Mexico, Topeka Council #1 ATR, Order of the Amaranth, Kansas York Rite, Scottish Rite, Kansas Association of Past Commanders of Knights Templar, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Crispus Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine. He spent many years transporting children to St. Louis to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. He enjoyed woodworking, cabinet making, photography and attending rummage sales.

He and Petra A. Romero were married December 27, 1948, at Our Lady of Victory Church in Parsons, Kansas. They later divorced.

Scott, KS Peter Carrillo Parsons, KS Mark Carrillo Parsons, KS Two Daughters – Clara Killingsworth and husband, Wayne Altamont, KS Carmen Smith and husband, Mike Carlsbad, NM Sixteen Grandchildren Ten Great-Grandchildren Two Brothers – Vincente Carrillo Dolores Hidalgo, Gto, Mexico Roberto Carrillo Dolores Hidalgo, Gto, Mexico Four Sisters – Beatriz Morales Dolores Hidalgo, Gto, Mexico Elena Villegas Emporia, KS Aurea Banega Dolores Hidalgo, Gto, Mexico Virginia Carrillo Dolores Hidalgo, Gto, Mexico A Dear Friend – Greg Olds

He was preceded in death by an infant.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
