MR. DAVID ALEXANDER of Avonlea, Saskatchewan, passed away on Thursday, March 8th, 2001 at the age of 78 years. David was born April 15th, 1922 on the family farm at Crystal Hill, Saskatchewan. After his return from the Army following the Second World War, he farmed in the Crystal Hill area until his retirement to Avonlea in 1985. He was a member of the Avonlea United Church, Avonlea-Rouleau Masonic Lodge, Avonlea Branch #236 Royal Canadian Legion and the Friendly Neighbour Drop-In Centre. Predeceased by his parents, Sam and Velma Alexander, wife, Elsie in 1978, daughter, Velma in 1949, two brothers, Robert and Wes, David is survived by children, Mary (Richard) Thomas of Weyburn, Neil (Ann) of Avonlea, Christine Ruth Alexander (Colin Anderson) of New Zealand and George of Avonlea, two sisters, Esther Alexander of Regina and Shirley (Gordon) Engstrom of Assiniboia, two brothers, Morley (Betty) of Regina Beach and John (Judy) of Saskatoon, grandchildren, David, Mike and Andy Thomas, Laura and Kirsty Anderson, sister-in-law, Phyllis Alexander of Pense as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 13th, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Avonlea United Church. Reverend Don Bater will officiate. Interment will take place Tuesday morning (10:00 a.m.) in Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw and those wishing to attend may meet at the main cemetery gates. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 12th, 7-9 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Avonlea United Church, Avonlea Branch Palliser Regional Library, Avonlea and District First Responders or to a charity of your choice.
