Mrs. Myrtle Eyler Baumgardner, 88, a retired school teacher of 510 E. Main Street, Thurmont, died Thursday, Jan 5, in the Rest Haven Nursing Home in York.
Born Nov 11, 1900 in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late William Paterson and Barbara (Long) Eyler.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Baumgardner taught in the Thurmont Middle School in the Social Studies Department. She taught for 50 years in the Frederick County School System.
During her teaching career, she was also a student, attending classes at Towson State College, University of Chicago, University of Maryland, Western Maryland College, Gettysburg College and the John Hopkins University.
She was a member of the Frederick County Teachers' Association, Maryland State Teachers' Association, National Teachers' Association, Sons and Daughters of Liberty Accuracy in Academia and the Leadership Foundation.
She was a former member of the United Brethren Church but in later years transferred to the Harriet Chapel of the Episcopal Church.
She is survived by one sister, Vada M. Robinson of Thurmont and one niece and one nephew.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Weller United Methodist Church, North Altamont Avenue, Thurmont, with the Rev. Barry E. Hidey officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the church. There will be no viewing at the funeral home.
Arrangements were made by the Robert Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main Street, Thurmont.
