John Gibson Bellamy
Funeral services for John Gibson Bellamy, 89, of Fort Cobb were held Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fort Cobb with Rev. Charlie Blount.
John was born July 4, 1916 in Nashville, Arkansas to J.V. and Susan Bellamy and died Sunday, September 25, 2005, just in time for Sunday School in heaven.
He was the seventh of nine children. He married Bee Eugene Deweese on November 30, 1935. In two months they would have been married for 70 years, which is a testament to their love and devotion to each other. He loved farming with a passion but never consumed with making money or having possessions. He knew it was not what a man owned or wore that measured a person's worth but how a man loved and served God and others. John lived his life according to this belief as he tried to always treat you with love, honesty, a smile and a firm handshake. He led singing at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church for 25 years until joining Fort Cobb First Baptist Church in 1973. He loved to sing and every time the family got together he would pass out the "Bellamy Song Book" and ask them one by one if they wanted sing. Of course no one could tell him no. John loved sports. He supported Fort Cobb athletics for over 50 years. During that time there were not many games played at Fort Cobb that he and Bee were not in attendance and as long as they played hard he was always satisfied.
He traveled many miles to watch his kids and grandkids play and coach and he loved every minute of it. Above anything on this earth Papa John loved his family and with the love, care and time that was given to him by his kids, grand, great grand and great great grandchildren through his life and especially in his last two years, that love was always returned to him tenfold. Nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by his family, which he was until the very end.
He is survived by his wife, Bee of the home; his four children, Pat Hardesty and husband Chuck of Bridge Creek; Larry Bellamy and wife, Sandy, Mike Bellamy and wife, Elaine, all of Fort Cobb and Lynn Bellamy and wife Rhonda of Anadarko; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; one sister, Idabell Beck of Escsalon, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and two sisters.
Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, south of Fort Cobb under the direction of the Fort Cobb-Hackney Funeral Home in Fort Cobb.
