MARRIED FLORENCE COLE CLOUSE, APRIL 9, 1935. WAS SHOT AND KILLED BY VADIE MURPHY, IN LANCASTER, KY. SHOOTING TOOK PLACE AT 7:30 PM, IN THE ROAD BETWEEN THE MURPHY'S AND CLOUSE HOMES FOUR MILES NORTH OF BUCKEYE, IN GARRARD COUNTY.
VADIE MURPHY GOT 8 YEARS OF HARD LABOR AT THE STATE REFORMATORY IN OLDHAM COUNTY. IT WAS SAID THAT WHEN HE GOT OUT HIS WIFE SHOT AND KILLED HIM. (WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND THEY SAY!!!). Funeral services were conducted for Charlie Clouse at gunny's chapel church by Rev. William f. pettus, pastor of the Lancaster methodist church, and burial followed in the church cemetery.Vadie Murphy was treated for a small cut,(Left Side & three stitches) that he received when (My Grandfather) Charlie Clouse cut him with a straight razor in defense of him-self, his wife ( Which Was Pregnant with my Mother at the time)& My Uncle's Roy, Casey, and Aunt Lucile. Charlie was setting on the porch after a full day of work when the two got in a Dispute over a "Cat" (My Grandmothers') & the Murphys' Dog.
Murphy came across the road to my Grandfather with a 22, the only thing my Grandfather had was the Straight razor which he tried to use, but as they say you can NOT take a Knife to a Gun fight, (The Gun will win). Murphy Shot him as my grandfather tried to keep him back, the bullet went in my grandfather under the left shoulder and down to his Heart as he bent over trying to keep Murphy away. At first the Murphys' son was held for the Murder (Leonard), but then Vadie (The Father) admitted that he did it!!. he was only 26 years old.:
